Shepherd’s Walk July 17, Beaudesert and surrounds The annual Shepherd’s Walk leaves from the monument in Christmas Creek Rd and enters local properties. It is held in recognition of the Chinese Shepherds and Aboriginal people who died in the Beaudesert district during early settlement. Walkers are bused to Christmas Creek Rd and the local auto club provides lunch. This is a popular event with bushwalking clubs and is always well supported. The event is organised by the Beaudesert Historical Society. Call 5541 3740 for more information.
 
The Drumley Walk, a pilgrimage to celebrate local heroes, starts on 11 August with a half day, full day or four day walk. The Walk begins at Beaudesert then travels across Tamborine Mountain before finishing at Southport. Further details at www.thedrumleywalk.com

The Artists in Residence (AIR) program in 2010 will place professional artists in selected Queensland primary and secondary schools to give students better access to creative opportunities in the classroom and give teachers access to arts experiences and resources. AIR is a collaboration between the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Queensland and Education Queensland and provides funding of up to $20,000 per project. Applications close 23 July. Arts Queensland, Arts Plus, New Models New Money a discussion paper developed by Arts Queensland and the Centre for Social Impact, proposes the establishment of a Foundation for the Artist - the first of its kind in Australia - to bring together public, private and corporate funding for artists.
