Ali George is a textile and mixed media artist conducting workshops from her Tarome-based Aliquilts Studios. Ali George has been involved with quilt making and textiles since 1987. Ali creates her own fabrics through a variety of techniques (dyeing, printing, rubbing and rusting). These form the basis of art quilts, some of which have been juried into Queensland’s annual State of the Art Quilt exhibitions and more recently, travelled to the United States of America. Studio visitors can expect the unexpected – the use of what is often unnoticed and ordinary in to art quilts and other objects. Leaves, rusted nuts, bolts and tools, re-purposed tea bag papers. Ali describes the processes of creating prints and individual designs on fabric as magic – and one that Ali loves to share. There will be displays of monoprinting, rusting, dyeing and rubbing plus opportunity for visitors to see the creation of new fabrics (and perhaps a small memento to take away from the visit). There will be an exhibit of art quilts (for display and sale).
