WORKSHOP OUTLINE

The “Sandwich of Cloth” is a great introduction to botanical and natural dyeing; you will learn the essence of natural print and resist dyeing on silk and wool cloth. You will learn the technical skills of the process that involves imparting colour and marks from leaves and flowers onto cloth and thread.
While the sandwich of cloth and leaves are cooking over a gentle heat we can explore some “Slow Stitch”. This type of stitching and stitching in general is a big part of Wendi’s creative process. We will work on a simple project of your choice - a needle roll, pin/needle cushion or similar.

Before home time you get to unfurl the contents of your “Sandwich” and this is the magical moment as the wonder of nature reveals herself.

Materials include: all silk, wool, thread and needles and the use of equipment for the day.
What to bring:  Lunch or purchase from Café on site, drinking water and chair. Wear closed in shoes.
Workshop suitable for beginners to experienced.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Wendi Trulson (of ecowott) works with an ecologically sound natural dye process. The infinite use of resources is important to her practice and she wants to encourage others to think about the fabric they wear and consume. Wendi explores the possibility of re-use and renewal of fabric and clothing into usable art, from the discards of society.
