ABS Studios is in the old Butter Factory in the heart of Boonah. The studio, with its stunning natural light is an inspiring work space for artist Felicity Smith who has created her classical pieces there for over 20 years.
“In this workshop, I want to offer like-minded painters, including beginners, the opportunity to work in my studio which is in the milk drying area of the old factory. The soaring ceilings some 15 metres high and over a dozen windows, combine to make the light perfect for artmaking.”

Felicity is offering a class in Australian Impressionist painting, a classical approach to representative artwork. With access to the highest quality paint from Old Holland and Michael Harding, those who attend this one day introduction to academic art will learn the basics of mixing a palette, blocking in, sight sizing and starting the creation of their own still life masterpiece.
Using locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables from the local fruit shop located in the old creamery section of the building - where the milk was once transported from outlying districts by horse and cart – participants will immerse themselves in classical oil painting techniques and celebrate the farming heritage of the Scenic Rim, in what Felicity describes as 'Paddock to Painter'.

Materials include: professional quality oil paints, solvent, oil, support and soft rags.
What to bring:  Lunch or buy from the old Cheese Shop, now Flavour’s Café opposite the studio, drinking water, chair, brushes – for beginners a cheap set of flat hog bristle is fine, easel if you have one. Wear comfortable closed in shoes as you will be standing majority of the day and old clothes or apron. Some easels available (7 including 1 desk easel)
Tea & coffee provided.
Workshop suitable for those who can stand on their feet all day, beginners to experienced painters.

‘I’m a classically trained painter and sculptor. My art practice is centred on a fusion between Classical Realism and Contemporary Surrealism. I like to explore the boundaries between the real and imagined; the space that exists between the concrete, ordinary world where rules apply and the whimsical world of the imagination where anything is possible.

Felicity is also particiating as an Open Studio artist in May 2018.  More info here
