SHARED FIRE COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS                                     

As part of the Fires on Top of Mountains Project, Scenic Rim Regional Council Cultural Program delivered during the Commonwealth Games in 2018, four events have been planned for our communities to celebrate individually and collectively leading up to and during this special Commonwealth Games period.

SUNDAY APRIL 1 2018
The Queen’s Baton Relay

The Queen’s Baton Relay will commence at 12 noon with a welcome ceremony at Rotary Park Lookout before baton bearers proceed down Main Western Road onto Main Street concluding at 1pm with an official ‘Community Stop’ - Scenic Rim Welcomes the World on Main Street across from the Tamborine Police Station.

        

Scenic Rim Baton Relay Event

The Scenic Rim Baton relay will run from 2.10pm just after the Queens Baton Relay on Main Street and involve children from the 30 schools, Guide and Scouts groups, Youth Groups and Sports Groups in the Scenic Rim region. The children will run in groups of three, two holding country flags and the other carrying our ‘black bean’ baton. The baton will be passed from baton runner to baton runner, and the country flags will be returned to the main stage on Geissmann Oval at 3pm for an official ceremony where they will be placed into a stand that will display all 71 flags

Tamborine Mountain Shared Fire Community Celebration

Tamborine Mountain Shared Fire Community Celebration will run from 1:30pm to 7pm on Geissmann Oval and will include fun sports activities for children and families presented by Kelly Sports, food trucks, a cabaret stage, roving performances, community storytelling around artisan fire pits, artisan markets and an evening performance telling a Tamborine Mountain story featuring traditional welcome, Tamborine Mountain Peoples Orchestra, poetry, dance, theatre and fire ceremony and performance

MONDAY APRIL 2 2018
Beaudesert Shared Fire Community Celebration

The event will run from 4pm to 7pm and will include traditional welcome, fun sports activities for children and families presented by Kelly Sports, food trucks, a cabaret stage, roving performances, community storytelling around artisan fire pits, artisan markets, a vintage car and motorcycle display. There will also be a light show presented by the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce, local community performers, the Beaudesert People’s Orchestra and a fire ceremony and performance. Beaudesert Shared Fire Event is Jubillee Park, Beaudesert.

TUESDAY APRIL 3 2018
Boonah Shared Fire Community Celebration

The event will run from 5pm to 8pm and will include a Tastes Of The Commonwealth food experience,
a traditional welcome, roving street performances, roving musicians and music groups, who have worked on the ‘Boonah Peoples Orchestra’ project with composer Andrew Veivers. Community storytelling around artisan fire pits and a fire ceremony will also be included. Boonah Shared Fire Event is High St, Boonah.

          



SATURDAY APRIL 14 2018
Fire on Water Finale - Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley

The event will run throughout the day and evening on and around the billabongs and lagoons of Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley.
10:00  Opening of the Kooralbyn Connection Trail
            
Resort Activities – Golf, paddle boats, clay pigeon shooting, helicopter flights, Aussie muster show,
             lawn bowls, putt putt golf, Aussie BBQ   
             Shared Fire Activities and Entertainment – artisan markets, arts workshops, food vans, sports
             activities, jumping castle, face painting
              Local Entertainers on main stage
4:00      Storytellers around the fires
6:30       Fire on Water Ceremony / Performance
Daytime activities will include fun family sport activities presented by Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley and Kelly Sports. You’re invited to join the Windows to the World Message Project and
Flock lantern workshop which is open to all the community (lantern will be used in the evening performance). There will also be food trucks, a cabaret stage, roving performances, community storytelling around artisan fire pits, artisan markets and live streaming of the Commonwealth Games.
By evening - watch Kooralbyn transform with fire and light! Enjoy a lagoon side performance featuring lighting projections, traditional welcome, storytelling, Flock Of Birds lanterns trail, the Scenic Rim Peoples Orchestra with Andrew Veivers and the Fire on Water fire ceremony finale.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ALL EVENTS:

All events are free and family friendly. Bring a picnic blanket. Some seating will be provided but please do not bring chairs as these may block the view of the performances.
For the Shared Fire events at Tamborine Mountain and Beaudesert and the Fire on Water event at Kooralbyn, come and taste the gourmet goodies served up by the Design Collective Food Trucks. For the Boonah Shared Fire event, support local traders and their Tastes of the Commonwealth dining experience down High Street.
For the Fire on Water Finale at Kooralbyn, food trucks will operate throughout the day and night and
Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley will also be hosting The Big Aussie BBQ. Designated licenced areas will be marked and managed by local suppliers, showcasing Tastes of the Scenic Rim.

PARKING

Parking will be provided and shuttle busses will operate for the Tamborine Mountain and Kooralbyn events from parking to the event site. (Look out for information in local papers and on Council’s website leading up to the event with further details.)

WEATHER EVENTS

All events will proceed in the case of light rain.
In the event of heavy rain, alternative venues may be identified and some program items may be postponed or modified.
Events to be cancelled in the case of extreme inclement weather (extreme wind; extreme, consistent and severe rain; cyclonic conditions). The events will not be rescheduled.
Updates will be posted on Social Media, announcements on local radio and notices on Council websites.
